We often hear and say, “children don’t read,” but many children have no access to books.

This year again, the bookstore La Compagnie des livres, based in Vernon (Your) renews thenational operation “Give it to read” which will be held until November 20, 2024.

500 participating booksellers

It is an operation supported by the French Bookstore Union, Secours populaire and independent bookstores.

Throughout , 500 independent bookstores are organizing a solidarity operation which aims to offer books to children and adolescents whose families are supported all year round by Secours populaire français in order to facilitate access to reading.

The godmother of the operation, for this year, is Émilie Tran Nguyen, journalist, who can be listened to between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on FranceInfo

130 works collected last year

“Last year, customers helped us collect more than 130 works which were distributed during a cultural and festive afternoon,” declares Aude Lemulier, manager of La Compagnie des livres. This will be the case again this year.

How does this happen? THE readers choose a book from the youth departmentintended for a child or teenager, and entrust them to the booksellers when they go to the checkout.

The books are generally intended for children, but we noticed that young mothers also appreciated receiving them. We have therefore extended the choice of very young babies to young mothers.

Aude Lemullier, manager of La Compagnie des livres.

If unsure about which title to choose, they can be recommended by bookstore staff. All the books will then be collected by Secours populaire.

Donate until November 20 with the Compagnie des livres, 76 rue d'Albufera.
