The Lincoln Defense comes from the books of Michael Connelly. But curiously, this season 3 is not adapted from volume 3 of its literary saga…
It’s the most popular legal series at the moment on Netflix (perhaps waiting Lidia rules end of October): The Lincoln Defense is currently top 1 on the streaming platform. Season 3 was put online on October 17, with 10 episodes in total (including a grand finale lasting almost an hour).
Imagine that this Netflix series with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the title role is not only the spiritual “sequel” to the 2011 film, with Matthew McConaughey. It is also and above all the adaptation of a literary saga. So, if you want to continue following the legal adventures of Michael “Mickey” Haller, there is plenty to do.
Les thrillers de Michael Connelly
It was the American writer Michael Connelly who invented the character. Very prolific, we owe him dozens of thrillers in bookstores: he is a reference in legal and detective thrillers. If he is renowned for his saga Harry Boschhis other successful series is that of Mickey Haller — who is none other than… the half-brother of Harry Bosch. The two heroes sometimes collaborate.
There are 7 volumes on Mickey Haller to date:
Does the series follow the books?
In general, in an adaptation, the TV series logically follows a chronological sequence: season 1, volume 1, season 2, volume 2, etc. But in the case of The Lincoln Defenseit’s not quite the same.
The Netflix series draws more freely from the legal stories of the different books. Thus, season 1 adapts volume 2 (The Lead Verdict) and season 2 adapts… volume 4 (The Fifth Witness).
This season 3 recently put online adapts volume 5 (The Gods of Verdict). The investigation is in fact based on the murder of Gloria Dayton (Fiona Rene on screen).
In fact, if you want a “sequel” to this season 3, it risks being complicated since the series, while taking up investigations from the books, develops its own narrative. The ideal would therefore remain to launch into the literary saga, starting from volume 1; or to read volume 5 directly, to relive the investigation of this season 3 very differently.
