Published on October 19, 2024 at 10:22 a.m.

A loving trio, a little-known passion, a youth poem full of tenderness… Today, Olivia de Lamberterie talks to us about love with her three favorite .

“Long Island” by Colm Tóibín

If you liked “On the Road to Madison,” you’ll love “Long Island.” Eilis lives in a small house. His life is as tidy as his kitchen. She has two children, an Italian husband… Everything is fine. Except that one day, unfortunately, a stranger rings her doorbell to tell her three things: 1. Her husband has a mistress. 2. This mistress is pregnant. 3. She will soon have, on the doormat of her “house of happiness”, this baby born from this adulterous passion. This is obviously too much for Eilis who returns to Ireland to find her previous life, her first love and her best friend. But obviously, when there are three of you in a love story, that’s one too many. If you don’t cry, I’ve cried rivers.

“Another is waiting for me elsewhere” by Christophe Bigot

We continue with this absolutely unexpected book by Christophe Bigot, “Another awaits me elsewhere”. Imagine Marguerite Yourcenar, it is 1981, she enters the French Academy. It’s a sphinx. She is austere. This is the statue of the Commander. She scares everyone. Next to her, Jean d’Ormesson looks like little Nicolas. She receives all the praise but she only has one idea in mind, which is to go find her young lover in an apartment in the Marais. This book is the absolutely unknown story of Marguerite Yourcenar, who is 75 years old when she meets Thierry, an American who is 30. And they will experience a real passion. What’s crazy is that, all of a sudden, we discover Marguerite Yourcenar feverish, jealous, passionate. She who said that love: “It’s bodies and desires”, that’s exactly it. It’s truly magnificent.

“A poem from Monsieur Dog” by Sébastien Mourrain

And finally, “A poem by Mr. Dog”. Mr. Dog wakes up in a very bad mood, he listens to Radio Toutou and there is only bad news, the kibbles are increasing again, the bedbugs are invading … And above all, Mr. Dog has a problem, which is that he can no longer write. Fortunately, Mr. Dog goes outside and there, he will meet a very nice person, and he will start writing a very pretty love poem again. It’s a divine book to talk about love with your children.

As for you, there is only one thing left to do, which is to rush to your bookseller. Books are devoured.
