In a room filled with memories, books and vintage objects, Gilbert Trompas tells us with enthusiasm, Tuesday October 8, 2024the story of Éditions Corsaire born in Orléans () 30 years ago.

A man’s story

Passionate about history and genealogy, Gilbert Trompas is born in 1954 in Saint-Maurice in Val-de-. After studying communications on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in , he joined Hachette.

“I was in charge of bookstore relations there. Then, I went to work for Nathan where I was in charge of promoting school books. I also participated in the creation of the French-language writers’ union and I created the foundation for press freedom,” he adds.

Multi-faceted editions

In addition to Corsaire, the editions have acquired, over the years, several editorial lines, notably:

  • Paradigm (resumed in 2013), reference publisher in medieval literature such as “The Game of Adam”, “Ancient History up to Caesar”, Anthology of the Troubadours”
  • Bridges in poetry which aims to promote poets from all over the world, famous in their country but little known in . She already has a ten collections in a bilingual version from the Dominican Republic, Finland, Estonia, England, Russia, etc.

They thus cover all genres, from literary fiction to non-fiction, thus representing 400 paper titles and 370 books in digital versioneither nearly 400 authors of all generations (De Gaulle, Zink, Charles Peguy, Juliette Benzoni, etc.).

Their great success? “The diary of a breast”, which brings together testimonies from victims of breast cancer, reissued several times and sold in tens of thousands of copies.

Last release

The latest book published by Editions Corsaire (June 2024) is “The man in the balaclava” of Régis Guyotatformer journalist at Le Monde and producer at France Culture, living in Orléans.

He speaks in particular of the immigration of men fleeing poverty or the living conditions of their countries of origin, in Orléans during the “Trente Glorieuses”. At that time, France completed its reconstruction and used the strength of the work of these men from elsewhere, recruited locally following the requests of French employers but living in degrading conditions and facing racism and slumlords. .
