“I tried twice to write this book, it’s not my job” smiles Michel Laffillé while visiting his son Matthieu in his optical store in Neuville-lès-Dieppe. The family doctor from Neuville, despite himself, admits that he was more attracted to the profession of butcher while working with his father in the family business in Eu, especially since studies hardly motivated him at the time.
The former doctor publishes “Family doctor… despite me” on sale for €12 at the “Le Plumier” bookseller on rue Saint-Jacques in Dieppe or at the Laffillé Optique store in Neuville-lès-Dieppe. “An old-fashioned doctor, like none left today, who took the time to talk to his patients”those who knew him say about him.
Trouble turning the page
Different elements will lead him to follow a school course allowing him to lead to a professional career as a general practitioner while his wife, Marie, worked as a pediatrician. A busy professional life for 37 years with, upon retirement, the feeling of having developed great relationships with patients who, some, became friends. So much so that he still admits today, six years after passing the baton, to having difficulty turning the page definitively.
Passionate about sport from a young age, faithful reader of his “bible” the newspaper L’Équipe, Michel Laffillé had created a friendly group bringing together young doctors from the Dieppe region. For ten years, from 1986 to 1996, this association collected donations for medical research by organizing major sporting events such as a Variétés football match with Platini at the Maurice-Thoumyre stadium in Dieppe, an exhibition tennis tournament with Nastase or a judo meeting with David Douillet.
I climbed legendary passes at my own pace
Passion for cycling
So many memories that the Dieppe doctor recounts in his book and also evokes his passion for cycling, this time, as a practitioner: “I climbed at my own pace of course but with real pleasure the legendary passes of the Tour de France, a cycle therapy, a gentle drug, for around ten years, from 2008, I regret today not seeing started cycling earlier.
But after some health problems, he had to resolve to reduce this activity there too. And has just taken a license at the Dieppe golf course, just to stay in shape or simply to get moving.
