Presentation of the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Illustrated (Classiques Garnier) – INHA

The growth of research on illustration and publishing, the digital accessibility of corpora, the impact of cultural history and visual culture, social history or visual anthropology have extended the scope of this field.

LThe objective of the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Illustrated (, 19th-21st centuries) is therefore to serve as a working tool, to link together objects, notions or areas that are often fragmented chronologically, technically, typologically, thematically.tical or theoretical, while extending the geography of the field whenever necessary. More than 800 pages, 230 notes written by more than 20 specialists allow for the first time to understand the concepts attached to the illustrated book.

On the occasion of the release of the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Illustrated Books (France, 19th-21st centuries) in the Classiques Garnier collection, the INHA invites Philippe Kaenel and Hélène Védrine to present the latest in illustration studies in the field of history.

Speakers

Ilaria Andreoli (INHA), Philippe Kaenel (University of Lausanne) and Hélène Védrine (Sorbonne University)

About State of the art

To better promote scientific activity in the history of art and heritage, INHA is offering a new cycle of meetings free and open to all once a week.

In resonance with their current affairs, INHA researchers, personalities who are hosted there as part of their research, but also art historians, curators, are invited to dialogue around their projects (exhibitions, works, acquisitions, research projects). The common threads are always the field of art history, and the way in which this discipline fits into the contemporary world.

Every last Thursday of the month, this dialogue will give way to a debate on social issues (see The debates of the National Institute of Art History).

Programming and moderation

Lucie Grandjean (INHA)
