Laure Tiberghien Booksellers Prize for Photography Books 2024

The prize, worth €3,000, rewards excellence in the field of photography. The jury, made up of fifteen booksellers from and Belgium, also awarded a special mention to Instants Simples by Claude Batho, published by Contrejour, thus honoring the memory of the photographer who died in 1981.

Titled Laura Tiberghienthis first monograph by the artist compiles 84 prints which reflect several years of work and experimentation. Laure Tiberghien strives to explore the plastic possibilities of photography, innovating in the use of this medium without a camera.

His creations are the result of a fusion between chemistry, light and time, resulting in meticulously composed abstract works. Colors are carefully tested and arranged to achieve precise tonal harmonies, and the choice of paper also plays a crucial role in the final effect, with cibachrome accentuating deep hues and a “wet“, while metallic paper gives a more electric appearance.

Although Laure Tiberghien sometimes allows chance to interfere in her creative process, she has developed a testing system that allows her to control the results, thus guaranteeing the uniqueness of each piece produced. The design of the monograph by the SP Millot studio is completed by a text by Erik Verhagen which dialogues with the images, enriching the visual reading.

Graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de in 2016, Laure Tiberghien’s work has been exhibited in prestigious venues such as Paris Photo, the Lumière des roses gallery, and the Rencontres d’ where she was awarded the Louis Roederer Discovery Prize in 2019.

She has also participated in significant exhibitions such as Photography put to the test of abstraction at the Ile-de-France Photographic Center and the FRAC Normandie in 2020, and at Invent color at the Église des Jacobins in in 2021. His works are part of the permanent collections of the Center Georges Pompidou, the Frac Normandie, and the French Museum of Photography. Born in 1992 in Paris, Laure Tiberghien continues to live and work in Paris and .

The Photography Book Booksellers Prize, chaired this year by novelist Marie Darrieussecq, also supports the promotion of the winning work in bookstores, affirming its commitment to the dissemination and recognition of quality photographic works.
