Corto open-air exhibition
On the south bank of the entrance to the Old Port, Fort Saint-Nicolas overlooks Marseille, opposite Fort Saint-Jean, and covers 4 centuries of history. Closed to the public eye for 350 years, it finally opened its doors and welcomed, within its walls, Corto Maltese during the first Metropolitan Book Fair. On the terrace of the Demi-Lune courtyard, the adventurous sailor displays his features and adorns the Citadel with more than 35 large-format illustrations. The exhibition gives an overview of Corto’s new adventures imagined by the Spanish duo. From Under the Midnight Sun has The Lifelinethe exhibition thus paints the portrait of an antihero, a citizen of the world even before the era of globalization. It also allows you to discover in preview, seven plates taken from the new album to be released by Casterman on October 30.

Preview album

Available exclusively at the show, The Lifeline – Corto’s new adventure – takes place in Mexico, almost ten years after the famous revolution of Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. Sent there by the ageless magician, Bouche Dorée, to recover a treasure of jade, Corto Maltese faces an insurrection of another nature which sees many Catholic peasants take up arms against the anticlerical laws decreed by the very atheist President Calles.

The Cristeros Revolt then sets Mexico on fire and blood, and assaults of inhuman cruelty will be perpetrated by both camps. If Corto manages to once again stay on the sidelines of the conflict, he remains lucid about the paltry purpose of his exploits. Finding the Irish Banshee and her alter ego Rasputin, he must, also and above all, face himself here…

Dedication and exceptional meeting

The event release of this new adventure is an opportunity to have the album signed but also to attend an exceptional meeting. In the company of Patrizia Zanotti, colorist of Hugo Pratt, director of the Cong company and co-curator of the exhibition Corto Maltese, a romantic life presented at the Bpi of the Center Pompidou, Juan Díaz Canales and Rubén Pellejero look back on the creation of this new album. The Spanish duo begins, in fact, to explore what brings the famous sailor closer to everyone. As Juan Díaz Canales says: “ The interest of the character is to make him evolve (…)Especially as he approaches forty, he is no longer the dark young man who did not fear death. »
