The book box, installed since mid-September, rue de Douarnenez in Quimper, was inaugurated on Friday October 11. An initiative of the Friends of the Rue de Douarnenez, carried out as part of the City’s participatory budget (€800,000 granted every two years to various citizen projects). The Max Jacob college, which usually makes them for the municipality, having been a victim of its success, several residents of the neighborhood took pleasure in participating in its development. “Abdel made the box, Basil painted it, Christine decorated it and Colette planted it,” underlines Marie-Aline Demortain, president of the Friends of the Rue de Douarnenez, whose members have no shortage of ideas. ! “We organize a garage sale every year on the square in front of the media library at the beginning of June, concerts in the gardens in the summer, mutual aid…”.
Already a success
The association was born during the covid period from the desire to come together and create moments of sharing. Around twenty people were also present on Friday for the inauguration of the book box, which, since its installation, has continued to be emptied and filled. “She started right away, it’s incredible,” rejoices Marie-Aline Demortain. “It’s an excuse for the meeting,” adds Uisant Créquer, deputy in charge of democratic renewal, human resources and social dialogue, who came with Valérie Huet Morinière, deputy in charge of the city center, heritage and revegetation. .
