This is a long-awaited film! At the start of October 2024, the feature film Salem’s Lotadapted from the eponymous book by Stephen King, published in 1975, has arrived on the Max streaming platform. Good news for fans of horror but also of the author’s works. The story focuses on Ben Mears, a writer lacking inspiration who returns to Jerusalem’s Lot, a small town in Maine, after having lived there as a child. But when he discovers that the latter is infested with vampires, he begins to fight the creatures of the night with some inhabitants. In this new release, directed by Gary Dauberman, the settings and context of the 1970s perfectly transcribe Stephen King’s imagination for an old-fashioned horror feature film. If the adaptations of Stephen King, whether in series or films, are numerous, and regularly attract a large audience, Salem’s Lot has had a journey strewn with pitfalls. Initially, the theatrical release of this feature film was scheduled in the United States for September 9, 2022, with a subsequent broadcast on HBO Max forty-five days later. Which, as you have surely understood, did not happen. Although filming was completed, Warner decided to push back the release date to 2023. But in October of that year, it was announced that the studio was considering a release on the Max platform at a still unknown date due to the screenwriters’ strike. An expectation which greatly displeased Stephen King, not hesitating to express his dissatisfaction on X (formerly Twitter) in February 2024, while giving his opinion on Salem’s Lot.

“Between you and me, Twitter, I saw the new Salem’s Lot and it’s pretty good. It’s an old-fashioned horror film: gradual development, good resolution [de l’intrigue]. I don’t know why Warner Bros isn’t releasing it; it’s not like it’s embarrassing or anything. Who knows? I just write the damn things“, expressed the writer with conviction. Stephen King, who is used to giving his opinion on numerous programs, therefore validated the production of Salem’s Lot. An opinion that Max subscribers can now form!
