40 years of meetings with authors and illustrators in Fougères

It is one of the oldest in . On November 14, 15, 16 and 17, at theAumailrie spacethe Children’s Book Fair of Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine) will celebrate its fortieth edition. “It has taken place every year since 1985, without interruption”, underlines Delphine Pointeau, director of the Fougères media library, in charge since 2016 of the organization of the show, with the others media libraries of the agglomeration.

Guest names

Having become a true institution over the years, and highly appreciated by professionals, who awarded it the prize for best reception, the show will welcome thirty-three auteurs et illustrators.

Among them, “big names” like Jean-Claude Mourlevat et Anne-Laure Bondouxbut also younger writers and cartoonists in the profession, with only one or two titles to their credit. Will also be present, as every year, Marc Baron, the creator of the event.

On average, 6,000 to 7,000 visitors crowd the aisles to interact with authors and illustrators and have their works signed. But the Fougères children’s book fair also includes classroom meetings with schoolchildren, from kindergarten to high school. 180 meetings are planned. “In all, nearly 12,000 people are affected by the show’s actions.”

The poster for the 40th edition is signed by Carine Hinder. The illustrator chose a colorful and fresh universe to represent an entire family of rabbits grouped around a book. “It was about emphasizing the intergenerational side. The parents who experienced the first fairs come today with their own children.”

Activities for everyone

Eleven workshops, led by illustrators, will be offered in the media libraries of Fougères agglomeration and Couesnon Marches de Bretagne on Saturday November 16 at 10 a.m.

This will be an opportunity to meet the artists in a privileged way. There will also be workshops at the show. Everyone can only participate in one so that as many people as possible can benefit.

Three illustrators, Emmanuelle Houssais, Sandrine Kao and Camille Garoche, will exhibit in the media libraries, and there will also be an exhibition of posters from all editions.

On site, and continuously, many activities will be offered: stories, expos, spectacles, lectures, jeux, makeup, coloring fresco, Contrevent carousel, boom with DJ Benco… The offer will be focused on children, but also on teenagers, “to respond to a demand from the public”.

Little ones will have their day, Friday November 15, with reserved access to explore the space in complete peace and quiet before the signings begin at 5 p.m.

Access to the show and all the activities over these four days are free, with the exception of the show The Bigoulet Mystery by the Marmouzic company (Free for under 18s, €5 for adults).

Bus access is provided by Surf from Place Carnot (Line 7) Espace Aumailrie stop.
