COULD THE EARTH BE… ALIVE?

Proposed in the 1970s and long ridiculed, the theory that the Earth is a vast interconnected living system is now increasingly recognized by scientists. From microbes to whales, life orchestrates its own environment, often matching or surpassing the geological powers of volcanoes, glaciers or earthquakes.

In this fascinating essay, renowned science writer Ferris Jabr explores and demonstrates this paradigm while going much further than theory: he offers us a truly immersive journey. Drawing on the latest research and his own field experiences with scientists, he offers us an innovative and embodied vision of how Earth and life are interdependent, inviting us to re-examine our place in the world. this delicate balance.

A fundamentally new vision of our planet, where lush forests spew bacteria to summon rain and microscopic, glistening organisms reshape the air and sea!

“Living things are not simply the product of inexorable evolutionary processes in their particular habitat; they are orchestrators of their environment who participate in their own evolution. »
