Laurent Gounelle invited to the book fair

Laurent Gounelle is one of the most translated French writers. He uses the form of the novel to convey his ideas on themes that are dear to him, such as childhood, love, beauty, nature or spirituality. He will speak during a conference at Fais lire!, a literature festival in () about another recurring theme: intuition, on the occasion of the release of his latest novel An almost perfect world.

Does intuition guide your pen?

Oh yes, absolutely yes! For a long time I believed – and this is certainly a little naive and undoubtedly egotistical – that all stories came from my brain. Today I know not.

I can tell you two anecdotes. In 2018, I started writing a book I promise you freedom. At first, I only know that the story is going to take place on a restaurant ship. I tell myself that the heroine will come from Djibouti. Everything takes place in the region, so I tell myself that the origin of my character makes no sense.
