Every year, the Vendée Departmental Library enriches its collections by approximately 16,000 new documents.
“These acquisitions are essential to maintain a quality and up-to-date offer for the 232 libraries in the network,” indicates the Department of Vendée in a press release.
Books that are worn out, too old or duplicates
At the same time, some of the documents acquired in previous years are being “weeded out”, because in poor condition, or no longer responding to reader demandin the news or because they have been purchased in numerous copies.
Single price of €1
If the most damaged (torn out, penciled pages, etc.) include a paper recycling chain, the majority, relatively in good condition, are intended for a second life, particularly duringa public sale organized every two years at the Vendée Library Directorate.
The next sale will take place October 4 and 5.
Environ 28 000 documents (novels, children’s books, comics and CDs) will be available for sale at the single price of 1 euro.
The sale will be held Friday, October 4 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
