The children’s book “The mysterious lizard of the Hospices de ” wins an award from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV)

On Friday, September 20 in Lisbon, the publishing house Graine de Moutard was honored with a special mention from the literary jury of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) for its children’s book, “The Mysterious Lizard of the Hospices de ”. This prestigious award highlights an original work intended for children, which combines the discovery of Burgundy’s wine heritage with a touching story of friendship.

A tribute to the wine-growing landscapes of the Côte de Nuits and Beaune
Written by Magali Lautrou, an author from Dijon, and illustrated by Cécile Guinement, this tale is aimed at children aged 3 to 10. Through the adventures of a young orphan and a wall lizard, a common species in the region’s vineyards, the book takes its young readers on a journey that begins at the Château du Clos de Vougeot and ends at the famous Hospices de Beaune. The book introduces children to the wine-growing landscapes of the Côte de Nuits and Beaune, while explaining the role of the Hospices in local history and culture.
To anchor this discovery in reality, an illustrated map at the end of the book allows children to explore and locate these emblematic places of Burgundy.
Magali Lautrou is a children’s book author and founder of the Dijon-based publishing house Graine de Moutard. Her works aim to introduce young readers, aged 3 to 10, to the cultural and natural heritage of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Her books, such as “Le mystère lézard des Hospices de Beaune”, highlight local heritage and are printed in an eco-responsible manner. Every year, the OIV, an intergovernmental organization created in 1924 and recently based in Dijon, rewards literary works related to vines and wine in different categories. The special mention awarded to “The Mysterious Lizard of the Hospices de Beaune” shows that children’s literature also has its place in promoting wine heritage. The jury was particularly impressed by the way in which the book raises awareness among young people about this precious heritage while telling an emotional and engaging story.
