When a reading terminal opens up all horizons « Montceau News

This September 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the presence of Hervé Mazurek, mayor of Blanzy, Sascha Kettler, director of the Michelin factory, Daniel Meunier, first vice-president of the community council, Sylvie Vincent, vice-president of the departmental council of Saône-et- in charge of community life, Michel Montmaron, deputy in charge of culture and community life of Blanzy, Y Duband, public works contractor of Bizots, Alain Michaud, painter and the Mine de Lire Association; the book box, located on Place de la Liberté in Blanzy, is unveiled to the public by Jean-Luc Maltaverne, member of the Mine de Lire association of Blanzy.

A book box in a Michelin directional corner terminal, a funny idea, one might say.

An idea born in the mind of Guy Mézery, member of the association “Mine de Lire” of Blanzy following an interview with the director of the Michelin factory. The association came to ask him for his sponsorship for the Blanzy book fair. No sponsorship but participation in a shorter term action, such as setting up a book box.

Bingo, the idea was already floating in the minds of the members and Guy Mizery gave it an appearance, then a reality.

As soon as the idea germinated, the alarm went off.

Michelin, books: the terms turn, mix. Then eureka: the book makes the mind travel, Michelin guides the traveler on the roads, a directional corner terminal… a book box, there you have the idea, all that remains is to do the same for the terminal.

Fortunately, there is an answer to this question: the association “Deux-Sèvres auto-mémoire” which has passionately specialized in the restoration of small heritage elements. When contacted, the association is enthusiastic about the project because of the use that “Mine de Lire” wants to make of it.

Without further ado, “Deux-Sèvres auto-Mémoire” offers a terminal box as is, and Mine de Lire is responsible for adapting it to its new purpose, the book box. It is a terminal manufactured by Michelin in 1932, probably doomed to oblivion when it was replaced by more modern and less grandiose signage.

As can be read on the sides of the terminal, the latter indicated the directions of Parthenay, Montcoutan, La Chapelle Saint Laurent at a crossroads of the D19 and the rue de la Grellière just outside La Chapelle Saint Laurent on the borders of the communes of Pugny and Chanteloup.

It was delivered in December 2021 to Vouillé to Guy Mizery’s daughter by André Bianco of the “Deux-Sèvres auto mémoire” association.

In December 2022, Guy Mézery obtained the support and sponsorship of the Duband company, from Bizots, for the installation of the terminal at the chosen location. A nice gesture.

The latter was to be followed by that of the city of Blanzy, which made its technical services available to the association. Next step, the terminal transits from Deux-Sèvres to St Bérain sous Sanvignes March 15, 2023.

At Mine de lire we know how to roll up our sleeves and with Yves Jacob at the helm, assisted by Martine Servy, the entire Mine de lire team set to work on the task of adapting this terminal to its new use. A real work of craftsmen crowned with success.

January 16, 2024, the municipal services of Blanzy did not skimp on the means to take delivery of the terminal in order to drop it off at the depot near the church of Blanzy, where the Duband company came to pick it up to install it on its site near the post office, rue de la République. All this free of charge.

It’s a long story that culminated in an inauguration that also took time, but which crowned the efforts of the association and of Guy Mizery, who was at the origin of the idea and its development.

Mine de Lire fully fulfills its role by offering the people of Blanzy, and even anyone who wants it, a fun and privileged place to read without breaking the bank.
