Port-La Nouvelle. “The terminal of the ambitious” by Christian Gau

Building on his three previous successes, the Nouvellois of Isère origin has just released his fourth fiction, The terminal for the ambitious.

Published for several years by Les presses littéraires based in Saint-Estève (Pyrénées-Orientales), Christian Gau takes his heroine Valérie Daguès, police commissioner in , into a new investigation full of twists and turns.

Money laundering and the underground economy

After Lies in Catalonia, The man who sowed death And The Forgotten of Divine Light (shortlisted for the 2025 Polar Bishopric Prize), the author, a fan of underwater hunting, will harpoon the reader and poke his nose into a dark money laundering affair. The story unfolds in the Pyrénées-Orientales, from the coast to Vallespir, where the underground economy will be highlighted, mixing delinquents with white-collar workers.

As comfortable as a fish in water in his mastery of criminal procedures, the former OPJ in the Research Brigade emphasizes: “Laundering is the niche of notables who unite their efforts and skills to serve criminals for comfortable commissions.”

The preface is signed by Yann Meric, a lawyer at the Pyrénées-Orientales bar, who worked alongside Christian Gau in the past.

Inspired by his favorite actress Catherine Marchal to stick to his curator Valérie Daguès, Christian specifies that “My fifth novel is in the pipeline. In a few months, Daguès should be facing a serial killer this time.”

Drowned in his legal writings for decades, the lover of his native Chartreuse concludes without bitterness: “With writing, I discovered the pleasure of making people travel. Their compliments, their smiles are my fuel. Through my stories, I try to help people understand that being a police officer is a complicated and legally strictly regulated profession where not everyone does what they want, thank God.”

The author’s next dedications will take place Thursday October 31 in the morning at Intermarché in Sigean; Saturday November 16 at the Villeneuve-la-Comptal book fair; Wednesday November 27 in the morning at the Super U in Ille-sur-Têt (Pyrénées-Orientales); Saturday November 30 at the book exchange at the Port-La Nouvelle media library
