The police have asked for the contact details of the customers who have purchased the Tunisian Frankenstein!
The publishing house Dar El Kitab was forced, yesterday, Friday April 28, 2023, to close its stand at the Book Fair, because of the book “Tunisian Frankenstein”.
The affair was very quickly relayed massively by the media and on social networks which denounced the censorship of a book which criticizes the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed.
Publishing house owner Selma Jabbes said on social media that a police squad went around bookstores to seize the book in question and question booksellers about the contact details of people who bought it.
There is nevertheless reason to wonder why the book is now the subject of censorship, especially since it has obtained its authorizations and has already been on the market for a few days and displayed in the shelves and windows of booksellers.
Many Internet users have estimated that it is probably an excess of zeal committed by the police with the complicit silence of the authorities.
The Dar El Kitab stand was closed due to the presence of the book “Tunisian Frankenstein” by author Kamel Riahi. Tunisian publishers have in turn closed their stands in protest.
This book, which has just been released, is, as presented by its author, ” a political book “. It is inspired by the life of Victor Frankenstein to evoke a monster created by the Tunisians from their disappointments, in the person of their President Kaïs Saïed.
