Customers will be invited to propose a text with the collected words and prizes are to be won. “The idea is to show the collaboration between independent booksellers.” Four of them will participate in this event entitled “one bookstore can hide another”: Les Agustins, Marcpage, Pouce&Compagnie as well as the Petite Librairie.
“The book is very important to us. It has three impacts: social, economic and cultural,” insisted the alderman for the Animation of the City, Antoine Lukoki (PS). “Our goal is to help local actors show what they can do together,” added the alderman for Culture, Jean-François Chefneux (New Verviers).
The second edition of Nouvelle Page, a book and comics festival, is already generating a lot of excitement among industry players. “We have around 60 authors who will be present over the entire weekend. We will have more local publishers,” emphasizes Gaspard Talmasse, comics author and member of the Comptoir des Ressources Créatives.
“We are lucky to have the book industry in the Verviers area: authors, publishers and booksellers. We have the full range,” insists Laurent Haas, from the Verviers library. Last year the festival brought together nearly 1,000 visitors over the weekend. “It’s very different from the book and old paper fair. Our mission is to promote authors and their creations,” adds Gaspard Talmasse. The literary autumn is also a show, a book fair in the city center, meetings with authors to be found opposite.
A literary-recreational rally
From September 1st to October 15th, the competition “one bookstore can hide another” will be launched in four independent stores in Verviers: Les Augustins, Marcpage, Pouce&Compagnie and La Petite Librairie. The goal? To propose a text with the words collected from the participating bookstores.
Second-hand book fair
On Sunday, September 8, the 8th edition of the second-hand book and old paper fair will take place on rue du Brou and rue de l’Harmonie.
Meetings with authors
Various meetings with local and national authors are being organized this fall. Two at the Petite librairie, rue du Naimeux 39 in Heusy. Tuesday, September 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. with the Stembert author Jean-Paul Christophe. He will be signing his works. On Wednesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m., a meeting with the writer Emmanuelle Pirotte will be organized as well as a signing. On Tuesday, September 17, at 5:30 p.m., meeting with the author Michel Claise at the Traversée, rue de l’Harmonie 17 in Verviers.

Show and activities at the library
