We tend to forget it. But in different forms, the “jungle” of Calais still exists. Hundreds of migrants flock there, determined to reach Great Britain which they imagine as an El Dorado, even at the cost of their lives. It is also on the occasion of drownings that the press talks about migrants again – not about their conditions of survival in Calaisis. Even if the State no longer denies this presence (installation of showers and distribution of meals) it is still the associations and volunteering which allow this survival.
