Developing, coordinating and disseminating genealogical and historical research in relation to past or present inhabitants of the Manche department is one of the priorities of the Généa 50 association and its members, in Fermanville (Manche). The association innovates by offering a little more lightness in relation to genealogical and historical research. A historical book
On Saturday January 11, 2025, the association celebrated the official release of the first book it published. A work entitled: Rue du Faubourgwritten by David Châtel. He has reconstructed the history of this old street in Cherbourg with its inhabitants and its various events. A slice of life in a corner of the city often forgotten by a large part of the new inhabitants
continues Xavier Gardin. The work is a meticulous research in which the author reconstructs, number after number of the street, the life of the past inhabitants of rue du Faubourg. Through censuses, the old press and the city’s archives, it is a disappeared world that reappears in this book, ancient professions, local figures, forgotten stories, prostitution, crimes and thefts and scandalous anecdotes punctuate this book

Portrait exhibition
The Généa 50 association also wanted to take a trip into the past by presenting a new exhibition around twenty faces from the 19th century.e century famous or unknown, reconstituted, restored and colored from old damaged photos. We present this exhibition in the Marie-Ravenel room in Fermanville with other surprises linked to Fermanville and generally to Val-de-Saire

Exhibition visible in January and February, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. as well as Wednesday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
