Born in the region, Gérard Huger worked for more than forty years in the banking sector, dividing his life between the capital and . Based in Sigoulès-et-Flaugeac, in Dordogne, since January 2013, this genealogy and history enthusiast, who adores the past of the villages of Périgord, wrote a first book published in November 2021: “Once upon a time… Sigoulès », a historical fresco of his new home.

Today, he publishes his second work, more fictionalized than the previous one, “Me Pierre, mayor of Cunèges”. “Starting from an event, I looked for a man who could mark the subject and I found Pierre [né en 1795 et mort en 1870]. Then, I dissected his genealogy to give a certain veracity to this book,” explains the author.

Pierre, the protagonist of the work, was born in Gardonne at the beginning of the revolutionary period. Son and grandson of farmers, he was successively a schoolmaster, surveyor and farmer. He was also deputy and then mayor of Cunèges during the various events which turned the life of this commune upside down.

An assassination in Flaugeac

Above all, Gérard Huger wanted to highlight the life of a city councilor evolving in an agricultural world, the journey of a man through the many accidents of life, his struggles and his convictions which had a profound impact on him. “All the events cited, climatic and historical, are real. Pierre's entire family existed. From these proven elements, all that remained was to romanticize the story,” specifies the writer. Before adding: “May the purists forgive me for having imagined the life of this man but it was for me the means of telling a page of the history of this Dordogne village. »

His third work, a detective novel, is already in progress. “It will be a writing inspired by a news item: an assassination in Flaugeac which took place in 1888,” he announces.

For all the curious and reading enthusiasts, Gérard Huger will host a signing session, Friday January 10 from 6 p.m., at the Cunèges community café, Le Verre solidaire.
