Christmas magic or social media magic? One thing is certain, Vicky Ball experienced an exceptional situation. Tuesday, December 3, the 48-year-old woman went to the Galleywood Heritage Center in the town of Chelmsford, 50 km northeast of London, to try to sell some copies of her two novels, Powerless et Abandoned.

As usual, she shares her daily life on X. In a series of tweets, she announced her presence at the show, but also that of her parents who had come to help her. According to her, her father is also a very good salesman.

End of day. Vicky takes stock: « Sold 2 books »“I sold two books”, in French, she rejoices on her profile. The story could have ended there. Usually, Vicky receives a few reactions under her posts, five “likes”, a comment… But this time, it’s a tornado of reactions which burst forth under the author’s publication. Internet users are moved by this lady who rejoices in little and believes in her dream. In six days, more than 24 million people saw his post, 746 liked it and more than 2,000 people commented on it.

Since then, it’s been an ascent. His two novels, Powerless et Abandoned, which respectively talk about two sisters, one of whom returns home after having disappeared, and a young girl whose mother is an alcoholic, rise to the top of the rankings and on Amazon, laudatory comments are piling up.

An unexpected success

The former teacher did not at all expect the magnitude that this simple message would take. “I’ve been to events where I didn’t sell any”she slipped in the preamble to her meeting with the British newspaper The Guardianto explain the origin of the tweet that changed everything for her.

During confinement, she took advantage of her weekends to devote herself to writing her novels. A way for her to escape the anxiety of the Covid-19 pandemic which was then hitting the world: “It was so helpful to have a goal and something to distract me from stress and worry. » She was then very far from imagining the success she would have achieved. “I’ve gotten messages on Instagram from people saying, ‘I’m in Colombia and I just bought your book’; “I’m in Salt Lake City”; “I am in Belgium”. It’s really incredible, it’s just incredible”testified Vicky Ball, whose book Powerless monopolizes the first places in several rankings.

Since then, she has been surprised on her social networks to see her name appear in the press. A beautiful story that makes you smile!
