Choletais Jean Maillard has brought together in a book more than 80 historical chronicles written for Le Courrier de l'Ouest from 2016 to 2020. Plus a dozen unpublished stories. A tasty read that takes the reader from the 18th to the 21st centuries and well beyond the borders of Cholet and Mauges.

Nothing predestined Jean Maillard, 72, to become one of our best local historians. Associate professor of economics and management, this native of Combourg (Ille-et-Vilaine) set foot in Cholet in 1972, where he participated in the creation of the Textile Museum, and taught at the Europe high school until his retirement. It was enough one day that he was asked to speak at a historical conference for him to develop a passion for this subject. The encouragement did the rest, to the point that he obtained a diploma of advanced studies (DEA) in history crowning his research work on the industrial tribunals of Cholet.
