The orange was blood. This is the title of the latest thriller published by Patrick Caujolle published by Cairn. The former police officer, based in Mascarville in Lauragais, once again takes the reader in the footsteps of his favorite character, the Captain Bastide.

This cop from the Toulouse PJ finds himself involved in an investigation which forces him to quickly leave the Pink City for a Breathtaking journey to the heart of Spanish Catalonia. Before the start of a tracking which will take him to Marseille, not without a stop in the Basque Country before reaching the Phocaean city.

Murder in the heart of Toulouse

The starting point of this detective novel: a Murder in the heart of one of the main districts of downtown ToulouseThe investigations that follow will invite Bastide to cross the Spanish border to explore the environments of the prostitution and of l’immigration clandestine. And to collaborate for the occasion with his counterparts from the Spanish police.

The Toulouse policeman’s quest for the truth – during which he is sometimes mistreated – ultimately turns into a real Manhunt full of twists and turns. With sometimes great moments of solitude for the investigator who does not fail to let his state of mind show.

Beyond the story and the plot, I want the reader to learn through the character. And for that, there has to be a semblance of reality. I’m not interested in having a guy who skims over the investigation. There, he has his forms of fragility, he gets shaken up a bit…

Suspense and unexpected ending

Besides a surprising endingwhose suspense is perfectly preservedone of the successes of this new opus lies in the ease for the reader to slip into the hero’s shoes to experience the action and intrigue up close. Just like the author did before him.

The characters are often inside us. What is interesting when you write a novel like this is even to feel that you are sometimes almost no longer completely in control of the game. A bit like if you were under hypnosis and the characters were taking over. You let yourself be carried along a bit even if you still have your initial skeleton.
