A 50-year-old humanitarian association recognized as being of public utility, Friends of the Children of the World operates in 14 countries and relies on 40 local NGOs. These are at the origin and at the heart of 70 development programs supported by the association. It is in this context that Bernard Revellat, head of the branch and who coordinates actions in the Center-West region, is organizing the third edition of the book fair in Échiré.

How long has the initiative existed in Échiré?

Bernard Revellat : “The first grant dates from December 2022, so we are in the third edition in its version for all audiences and all types of . We also created, in June 2024, the first children's book exchange, dedicated to children and teenagers. »

What is the principle of the book exchange?

“We collect book donations all year round, through word of mouth, through advertisements, through a partnership this year with the Niort Vallon d'Arty recycling center, or the two previous years with the municipal library and the Super U of Échiré. But also through donations from other libraries (like Champdeniers and Aiffres), as well as help from Emmaüs and Bazar etc. We sell them once a year just before Christmas, in the Huguette-Gelot room generously lent to us by the municipality of Échiré. The price is €1 for all books, except comics and beautiful books which, depending on their condition, are sold between €2 and €5. »

Who is the approach aimed at?

“The scholarship is open to everyone, entry is free. The price of one euro allows everyone access to reading. The eleventh book is free. »
