Jean-Marc Chavot, an author from Saint-Etienne, recently winner of the Claude-Fauriel Prize at the Saint-Etienne Book Festival, will be present on Sunday at the Yssingeaux Authors' Salon. In his novel “Asperger for ever” (Les Presses du Midi), he addresses autism. A subject that concerns him personally.
Jean-Marc Chavot, history teacher, joined another school on Friday, not to teach, but to discuss with high school students from Saint-Gabriel around his book “Asperger for ever”. “I met some very concerned students, who had prepared well for our meeting. It was very pleasant.”
His third book
After writing following the death of his adoptive mother (“France or nothing at all”) then around two cycling soldier friends from 1914 (“Faim de cycle”), the Saint-Etienne author wanted to recount his childhood vacations with his grandmother in the Forez plain, adding a love story between two 10-year-old children, one of whom is autistic. Her lover will try to get her out of her bubble thanks to nature. “The book ends with two endings. The end of the story of the moment and then a few years later: what we are today is never trivial.”
The issue of autism addressed in a novel
In this novel, the writer discusses autism, a subject that concerns him personally and his son. “The little girl in the book is not my son. They are also very different. But I think I am justified in being able to talk about it. I often see books about testimonies, rarely novels. Autism is a strong handicap, I wanted to make her the heroine of my book.”
And the Saint-Etienne author had the pleasant surprise of recently being awarded an award. His book, released at the end of 2023, received the Claude-Fauriel Prize at the Saint-Etienne Book Festival in October 2024. “An extraordinary experience” for Jean-Marc Chavot, honored to receive this distinction.
