The first book box, installed at the entrance to Lourches town hall, was inaugurated this Wednesday, November 13.
« This operation is an extension of the actions carried out by the municipality and Porte du Hainaut, with the aim of promoting public reading. », Says Mayor Dalila Duwez-Guesmia. In this box, everyone can drop off Books or borrow one or two maximum. They can be kept for a week or more, but must be returned. Books placed must be in good condition and accessible to everyone, including children. Elected officials reserve the right to remove religious, racist or pornographic books. « People who wish can slip a word into the borrowed book to express their feelings about their reading. », adds the councilor.
The culture assistant Isabelle Cattiaux thanked Alain Petit, carpenter-cabinetmaker, manufacturer of this box, made in a room at the Chrysalides residence. She hopes that it will be a source of exchanges between the people of Lourche, and that these books will allow them to escape, to forget and to dream.
