We almost believe we are in the famous show Zevent on the Twitch platform, with its very well-known donation goal (donation levels). This is the concept that the national video game conservatory in Chalon-sur-Saône chose to use to publish its new book. They launched an online prize pool with different levels depending on the amount to finance themselves, with fairly rare video games as gifts.

Prizes that catch the eye in the gaming community

Today, they have already managed to obtain almost €6,400 in three weeks and the representatives of the conservatory know why. “As we offer old Cobrasoft games in exchange for a donation and there are not millions in stock, there is therefore a real interest”explains Bertrand Brocard, president of the structure. With this sum, the national video game conservatory intends to publish its first book as quickly as possible.

Video games are 40 years old and we are already dealing with their history and how we make them.

For the author of this work, Guillaume Montagnon, “As I researched, I found interesting, amusing, even unusual anecdotes and articles on video games”and his name is “Bulk Games“. In this work, we will tell the story of this activity, through scientific studies, cultural pages but also compilations of anecdotes on different games around the world.

“Let's imagine that in the time of Méliès, there had been a cinema conservatory, it would have been great. We are in this situation, video games are 40 years old and we are already dealing with its history and how we do them. And that’s fundamental!”says the president of the conservatory.

But the only downside of the operation is that this book, published thanks to crowdfunding, will not be available to everyone. Only subscribers to the operation will be able to access a copy of this work thanks to a donation.

The ultimate donation level: the highest possible

Friday, November 8, the prize pool amounted to €6,400, only one hundred euros from the second level, which would offer more luxurious coverage to the work of Guillaume Montagnon. Behind there are still three levels, at 8,000, 10,000 and more than 10,000 € so that the two friends linked to the national video game conservatory can launch their project 100%.

Note that the fundraising campaign ends in two days and that it can still climb several levels. The book is scheduled to be released next spring.
