Library weeding is a gardening metaphor that refers to the action of weeding out materials from a library's collections. This practice, considered essential, makes it possible to regularly sort through collections in order to make room for new acquisitions.
However, weeding does not necessarily mean the end of life for a document.
Withdrawn materials may be redistributed to other institutions, sold at used book sales, or even donated to charity.
On the occasion of its library clearance, the network of libraries of the community of communes of Pays de Sommières offered residents of the area the opportunity to benefit from the weeded documents free of charge.
