QWhat would Bellet be without Carine Dalmasso and literature without Michel Bounous? These two local producers, as they define themselves, are keen to perpetuate a certain tradition: wine from the only Nice vineyard for the first and the Baie des Anges editions for the second. Good taste, in short.

Carine Dalmasso, Bellet’s ambassador

Elegant, robust and full-bodied. Like her wine, Carine Dalmasso does not lack character. Daughter and granddaughter of farmers, this winegrower runs the Domaine de la Source with her brother Éric, on the heights of Nice. A 7 hectare vineyard which produces an organic AOC Bellet, the only vineyard in Nice: “My grandparents acquired the estate in the 1960s to become horticulturists, and my parents took over,” she says. On this land where she was born, barely twenty minutes from the city center, Carine Dalmasso grew up in freedom, like “a little Mowgli in the jungle”, surveying dark hills and valleys. In 1986, in order to face competition, his parents planted their first vineyard to diversify. Carine joined them in 2004, following the acquisition of a new plot of land. Of these terraced vines where “everything is done by hand” 15,000 to 20,000 bottles are released each year. Mainly white and red, a little rosé too. So many nectars with fruity, gourmet or spicy aromas depending on the year and which flow onto the most beautiful restaurants in the region, such as La Chèvre d’Or in Èze or La Réserve in Nice. “80% of our clientele is foreign and discovers our wines during tasting visits to the estate”, specifies this mother of two children who readily admits to exercising “a profession of passion”. Domaine de la Source won a gold medal at the last two Agricultural Shows. “Our desire is to increase our notoriety”confides the one who also chairs the Bellet Winegrowers’ Union.

Michel Bounous, the book producer

He is the creator of Baie des Anges editions. “A pure Nice product”, whose links with the city go back several generations. “My great-grandmother was born in Old Nice”says Michel Bounous. For more than twenty years, this enterprising publisher has maintained the same guideline: to make people love Nice and its region. “I consider myself a local producer: instead of making honey or jam, I make books”indicates this dynamic and jovial man. Michel Bounous even launched the Nice thriller. “I discovered the Breton thriller during a stay in , it gave me the idea”he explains. Its formula remains unchanged since the beginning, with books priced under 10 euros with no more than 220 pages and a pocket collection with recognizable graphics. The title is also important. « Cyanide in Valrose, Panic on the 202… Every good Nice resident knows these places”he emphasizes. Michel Bounous also publishes mountain novels, popular with lovers of the high country. All the works evoke places that exist. ” In Vésubie 666, for example, the author speaks of the abandoned hamlet of Béasse, above Lucéram. Several people went there after reading the book,” relates the editor, who was, in another life, director of a communications agency. For the writing of works (more than 220 in twenty-two years), Michel often calls on local personalities. He also publishes the books of the Nice artist Patrick Moya. “I receive a lot of manuscripts, but I say no all the time”confides the one who has just published his 28 e polar, A perfume from beyond the grave, signed Isabelle Luminet §
