If there is a contemporary author who has a place in Comminges, it is Christian Louis. Along the Garonne or on the paths of the Piedmont, it immerses the reader in the history and stories of Comminges and walks through its landscapes. The Ax and the Gun, his latest, is above all a chronicle of the Pays des Frontignes in the 19th century. The chronicle of ordinary violence which has its roots in extreme poverty and even in misery accentuated by climatic hazards and family tragedies. We steal to feed our families and sometimes we die. But we also insult each other, we fight each other’s buns, we throw stones at each other… The lighter chronicle of village squabbles. “Reading Christian Louis is a treat because what he writes is useful and documented. Listening to him is pure joy because the guy is a fine storyteller,” say the volunteers at the municipal reading point in Galié who will receive the author on Saturday May 18 at 6 p.m. for a conference-signing in the community hall. The latter will talk about his sources and his writing process, local violence… Free entry.
