After thirty books, Sylvie Macquet launches into a new genre, unexpected for her: the polar. This new novel is called: Crime at the book fair and it is notably available at the Eu press house, in Seine-Maritime.

Ten o’clock, book fair has just opened… but the guest of honor, Maria Verdier, also secretary general of the town hall services, is found dead… Lieutenant Saint-Pierre’s investigation begins.

“It’s a way of renewing myself,” says Sylvie Macquet. “I had wanted to write a thriller for a long time, but without daring to get started. In one of my novels, Louise or the harvests of memory, there was an investigation, but it was only in the background of the plot.

“A duo that does not go unnoticed”

In her previous works, Sylvie Macquet based fiction on real places and situations… This time, she gave free rein to her imagination, without real location. “However, I relied on my experience of book fairs to create the framework.”

The investigation is led by a duo “who do not go unnoticed”: Lieutenant Saint-Pierre, nicknamed the elegantbecause he is always impeccably dressed, and his deputy, Lambard, an “elephant in a china shop”. They are helped by Gabrielle, “a motivated and competent gendarme”.

Sylvie Macquet wanted a “classic and original” detective book.

The reader is led to follow the investigations until the solution… which is only revealed in the last pages.

This seems to have amused the author a lot. “It’s a more lively, less literary style of writing, even if I don’t like colloquial language, I maintain a level of everyday language. It is also an important work of constructing the enigma.”

She will present this first work… in different book fairs. “It’ll be fun.” Sylvie Macquet also ensures that it is the first volume of a collection devoted to the investigations of Lieutenant Saint-Pierre.

Crime at the book fairby Sylvie Macquet, 196 pages, priced at €15. It is available from the author or from the Pradels de Eu press house. Information on 07 82 08 21 46.
