Monk: Will there be a sequel to the TV movie? – Cinema News

While Monk’s reunion TV movie has just been broadcast on TF1, can we hope to discover a sequel to the detective’s adventures? We tell you everything!

Has Monk really bowed out? Indeed, after the reunion TV movie that you just discovered on TF1, will the detective be entitled to new adventures? This is the question that fans of the first hour are asking themselves after this unforgettable evening.

Airing in December 2023 on USA Network, this final installment brought the entire cast together for one last, most emotional case. However, now that our actors are reunited, it’s hard not to want more!

Asked during an exceptional podcast organized by Variety magazine, Tony Shalhoub revealed that he would be “excited to reunite the entire cast again and continue playing Adrian Monk in another project.”

“We don’t know yet”

“We don’t know yet if there will be more but that’s Andy Breckman’s (the creator of the series, editor’s note) wish and I think he made that clear not only to NBC and Peacock but

also to our audience.”

“I wouldn’t be opposed to continuing”

He continues by confiding : “We don’t have anything definitive planned yet (…) but we’ve had so much fun coming back to this show. I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to continuing if it was the right time, the right idea and the right script. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

But it’s not as simple as fans might imagine because everyone appreciates the way Monk ended. It was the pandemic that allowed the entire team to come together to find the right story for this long-awaited return.

“Well, that was a compelling reason to bring this character back. How would Adrian Monk have navigated the pandemic? It just started the conversation, and Andy had a great idea.”

He concludes: “I’m so glad we did it, because it really felt like there was more to the movie than just episode 126.” Suffice to say that there is clearly hope for a sequel. So it remains to be seen what the future holds for us!
