Palace-Town Hall (Tilburg)

The Palace-Town Hall is an iconic building in Tilburg. The palace, built as a residence for King Willem-II, is located on Willemsplein in the heart of the city. On Saturday 14 September and Sunday 15 September it is open between 11:00 and 17:00. There is a special program for children and adults on Sunday. For example, there are children’s lectures on democracy and the history of Tilburg, there is a photo exhibition and the Tilburg 2050 work studio is open. In this studio you can sketch your future vision of the city with AI.TextielMuseum (Tilburg)

Textile Museum (Tilburg)

A must-see is the TextielMuseum at Goirkestraat 96, one of the city’s most iconic former textile factories. On Sunday 15 September, you can take a free tour of the site between 12:00 and 17:00, where you can view old photos and information about the current interior of the building. In addition, there are guided tours every 20 minutes in the museum, where textile heritage and modern applications come together.

Former Trappist Abbey – Ons Koningsoord (Berkel-Enschot)

In Berkel-Enschot you can visit the former Trappist Abbey, now Ons Koningsoord, on Saturday 14 September from 11:00 to 16:00. This monumental complex, built in neo-Gothic style, has been beautifully restored and repurposed as a cultural centre. Visitors can enjoy the Culture Tasting with various activities for young and old, including an exhibition by Heemkundekring De Kleine Meijerij.

Assisië Country Park (Biezenmortel)

Another special monument is Landpark Assisië in Biezenmortel, which is open on both days from 11:00 to 16:00. Here you can visit a historical air raid shelter, which harks back to the theme of 80 years of liberation. The shelter commemorates an American bomber that crashed in 1944, with one survivor having to hide on the grounds of Assisië for weeks.

Purpose of Open Monument Day

Open Monument Day is organized by Nederland Monumentenland, in collaboration with local committees throughout the country. With this event they want to increase the attention for monuments by making this special Dutch cultural heritage accessible and thus preserving it for a wide audience.
