His third Paralympic title beckons: G-table tennis player Laurens Devos advances to the semi-finals and is already assured of at least bronze

Table tennis player Laurens Devos qualified for the semi-finals of the singles (MS9) at the Paralympic Games in Paris on Wednesday. The 24-year-old from Antwerp had a bye in the first round and won his opener of the singles against the Swede Daniel Gustafsson in three sets: 11-4, 11-6 and 11-8. The match lasted nineteen minutes.

With a place in the semi-finals, Devos is immediately assured of a medal, since the losers of the semi-finals in table tennis both receive bronze. In the last four, Devos will face Spaniard Ander Cepas, who beat Ukrainian Ivan Mai 3-0 (11-3, 12-10 and 11-7).

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:00. Devos was also active in the doubles (MD18) at these Paralympic Games. Alongside Marc Ledoux, he was defeated in the quarter-finals by the Chinese Shuai Zhao and Hao Lian.

For Devos it is his third participation in the Paralympics. At the Games in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021 he already won gold in the singles twice. In addition, he was also crowned world champion in Granada, Spain in 2022.
