Belgian para-cycling increased Belgium’s medal total this Wednesday in Paris.

Tim Celen won the bronze medal in the para-cycling time trial at the Paris Paralympic Games in the T1-T2 (tricycle) category.

At the end of a 14.2 km course, the 26-year-old from Limburg, first in the T2 category, achieved a time of 23:27.64 and conceded 1:51.86 to the Chinese Jianxin Chen (T1), already covered in gold in Tokyo. The Canadian Nathan Clement (T2) took silver at 1:17.58.

Celen was 4th at the intermediate after 5.8 km. He overtook the Italian Giorgio Farroni in the second half of the race.

Celen gives Belgium a sixth medal in Paris. Maxime Carabin won gold (para-athletics 400m T52), Ewout Vromant took two silver medals (para-cycling pursuit and time trial C2), Maxime Hordies also took silver (para-cycling time trial MH1) and Peter Genyn won a bronze medal (para-athletics, 200m T51).

Celen had already won bronze at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021 in this event behind China’s Jianxin Chen and Italy’s Giorgio Farroni, 4th on Wednesday in Paris. He had also won the silver medal in the road race.

Lea Bayekula qualified for the final of the 100 meters of para-athletics event of the Paris Paralympic Games, in the T54 category, on Wednesday at the Stade France in Saint-Denis.

Placed in lane 2, she won her series in 15.87 seconds, 24/100ths of her personal best (15.63).

The 29-year-old from Brussels achieved the second best time in both series behind the 15.55 seconds, a new Paralympic record, achieved by the American Tatyana McFadden, winner of the first series.

You had to place among the top three or achieve one of the two other best times to enter the final, which is scheduled for 8:34 p.m.
