The civil case about the accident at The Jane was brought before the police court in Antwerp on Wednesday. Star chef Nick Bril was present, but made no statements. The lawyers of the car insurance company and victim Joe Claridge are requesting a quick appointment of a court expert.
“My client’s morale is very good. Two weeks ago I visited him in the rehabilitation centre of Pellenberg. He is embarking on his long rehabilitation with good courage, but he does hope to celebrate Christmas at home with his family.” This was stated by Mr Peter De Maeyer, Joe Claridge’s lawyer, on Wednesday before the police court in Antwerp.

Claridge’s lawyer joined the request of his colleague, Mr. Werenfried Schwagten, on Wednesday, who asked on behalf of the car insurance company to appoint a court expert as soon as possible. “I am asking the court today to appoint an expert for the broadest possible assignment, because it is in the interest of all parties to handle this part of the case as quickly as possible,” said Schwagten. Star chef Nick Bril attended the technical hearing, but made no statements in court or afterwards. His lawyer, Mr Omar Souidi, had questions about the course of events. “My client is cooperating 100% with the investigation, despite what certain actors want us to believe. The statement by the insurance company’s lawyer that Nick Bril “disputes everything” is also unqualified. We would like to emphasise that the investigation is still ongoing. At the same time, it is not entirely customary to involve Nick Bril in the appointment of an expert on the pure insurance issue. It is true that the insurance company has already paid Joe a provision of 40,000 euros for the costs incurred.”
The police court will rule on the appointment of a forensic expert on September 25.
