Emmanuel Macron continued his “consultations” on Tuesday to appoint a prime minister, whose choice has still not been made.

The PS national office rejects a proposal not to censure a Cazeneuve government a priori

The national office of the Socialist Party (PS) rejected this evening a proposal not to censure a government led by the ex-socialist Bernard Cazeneuve a priori, contrary to what was demanded by opponents of the first secretary, Olivier Faure.

The latter had demanded in the afternoon a vote of the national office so that the PS “clearly announces that he will not censor a cohabitation government led by Bernard Cazeneuve” if its program is based on that of the New Popular Front. Their amendment to this effect was therefore rejected

At the start of the national office, the PS boss, Olivier Faure, master of the agenda, indicated that he refused such a vote. The leadership preferred to submit to the vote a resolution presenting the ten points on which the PS will not compromise and will ask the future prime minister to commit, such as the repeal of the pension reform, the unemployment insurance reform and the immigration law, the increase in the minimum wage, the green ISF, the taxation of superprofits, measures for schools and health, housing, etc.

Olivier Faure and the leader of the Socialist group of deputies, Boris Vallaud, spoke again in the afternoon with Emmanuel Macron, who is still looking for a prime minister and continues to test the options of the former Socialist minister Bernard Cazeneuve, and the president (Les Républicains) of Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand.

In text messages copied to Agence France-Presse, the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, and the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène Geoffroy, asked that Olivier Faure and Boris Vallaud rely on “a collective and public response” of the party, and that they announce to the head of state that the PS will not censure a government of Bernard Cazeneuve, starting from the NFP program.

The socialist deputies, who met on Tuesday morning, for their part once again adopted the same line: “The substance before the casting. We will censor any extension of Macronism.”
