Will Wout van Aert return to the field this winter? A sneak peek revealed

Wout van Aert has found his best legs again in the Vuelta, but is also thinking ahead. Cyclocross is already in the back of his mind.

This fall, Wout van Aert wants to score as much as possible on the road. In the Vuelta, Van Aert still has three chances to score, with a possibility in the sprint or a breakaway on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a time trial on Sunday.

After the Vuelta, Van Aert also wants to score on the road race at the European Championships (15 September) and the road race at the World Championships (29 September). Van Aert deliberately skips the time trial at the European Championships and World Championships to build in some more rest.

Cross already in Van Aert’s mind

It is not yet clear whether he will continue to race on the road. “I want to extend my season until the beginning of October,” Van Aert said at Sporza Daily. Last year, Van Aert also rode the World Gravel Championships at the beginning of October.

But Flemish cycling fans may also be thinking about winter. “I do think about it sometimes, yes,” Van Aert himself admits. “But I don’t have a specific plan yet. After my rest period, I’ll see how we tackle the winter.”

That we will see Van Aert in the field this winter seems almost certain. Mathieu van der Poel, on the other hand, left doubts about whether he will race this winter. The world champion is thinking about skipping a winter.
