MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Another picture-perfect day for the first day of school for many kids today! This nice stretch of weather we’ve been enjoying will continue through the next two days until a Canadian cold front brings big changes for the end of the week.

We’ve been giving you the first alert on a big drop in temperatures by next weekend: we’re talking highs in the middle 60s, which we haven’t seen since June! You may want to break out the sweaters and pumpkin-scented candles in preparation.

What’s Coming Up…

Temperatures are starting off cool again this morning, so you and the kids may want a light jacket or a sweatshirt as you’re walking out the door. We’ll climb steadily through the day thanks to sunny skies and a light breeze out of the south. High temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than yesterday, with highs in the upper 70s through much of southern Wisconsin.

Clear skies overnight will allow for another cool start to Wednesday, with low temperatures back in the 40s and 50s.

More sunshine on Wednesday with highs closer to 80 degrees.

Looking Ahead…

We’ll be watching for a cold front to swing through the region Thursday afternoon, bringing scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms late in the day. The big change comes as the front departs and a blast of cool air moves in from Canada. High temperatures will drop from the 80s on Thursday to the upper 60s on Friday. The coolest day will likely be Saturday with highs only in the middle 60s. Overnight lows this weekend will likely be in the mid-40s!

It looks like temperatures should rebound as we go through the following work week.
