David Hallyday reveals his secrets for staying in shape at 58

Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan’s son will indeed need some breathing space as he prepares to sing his father’s biggest hits on stage. Songs that have become classics like “Vivre pour le meilleur”, “Diego” or “Je te promets”. David Hallyday is therefore forced to take special care of his voice, “my only instrument as a singer” he considers.

“I change my diet and avoid, for example, coffee which can create acidity and cause gastric reflux, which would damage my vocal cords. I am so terrified of the idea of falling ill that on tour, I try to see as few people as possible and I avoid contact, kisses and possible viruses that go with it” explains the man who became a grandfather two years ago to little Harrison.

A healthy lifestyle even away from the stage

It’s not just during concert periods that David Hallyday pays particular attention to the way he treats his body. For him, no motorbike rides or pub crawls, while he is approaching sixty he says he prefers to use his free time to “chill out or play paddle tennis with friends”, “walk with (his) dogs” or “do sports”.

In addition to harmful substances, the singer also keeps himself away from screens and other objects that promote a sedentary lifestyle. “Smartphones and social networks eat up a lot of our time and I sometimes find it distressing to be reachable by everyone, all the time. A question of age and generation perhaps,” says the father of influencers Ilona and Emma Smet.
