That one defeat still bothers many people: ‘We will have to work hard’

Last week, a reference to the Champions League semi-final in the 2004-2005 season appeared on X, the former Twitter.

A grandiose PSV almost proved to be a size too big for the great AC Milan, with Maldini, Seedorf, Nesta and all the famous stars and greats of yesteryear. AC Milan won after a mediocre home match of the Italian side in San Siro against PSV.

In the Philips Stadium, PSV played even better than in Milan if possible and quickly took a 2-0 lead. The rest is history. The reactions were still special after the memory of that magical football evening in Eindhoven. It would be going too far to say that the defeat in Nijmegen last season had the same effect as in the spring of 2005. A radically different feeling, but even after this defeat there was a lot of frustration, even for weeks afterwards and even after the national title had been won.

Because how close did PSV come to an undefeated season and how close did the real important records come? Very close but it was not meant to be because fortunately it turned out to be that one defeat in Nijmegen but an undefeated national title would have been so much nicer in a particularly beautiful season.

Peter Bosz can still be annoyed about it and so many with him. The coach is watching over NEC in the Philips Stadium, as was evident from his words on Friday afternoon in the video below.
