Members of the council appeared largely receptive to the teachers’ concerns, vowing to make changes. They are considering the addition of more school resource officers and metal detectors but did not take immediate action. “We need to take notice now. I stand with you, teachers. Teachers are calling for immediate action from city officials after a violent fight at Revere High School left an assistant principal injured.

The video shows the fight in a hallway, during which the administrator’s head is slammed against a locker as she falls to the floor.

The violence drove dozens of teachers to a Revere City Council meeting on Monday, where they argued the School Committee doesn’t listen to them.

“Their lack of concern and wanton disregard for what they’ve been doing in the community has been brought into the school,” one teacher said during the meeting.

Educators also spoke to the council about students and staff feeling unsafe in schools.

“I cannot tell you how many of my students have said they’re afraid in our school,” another teacher said.

The Revere Teachers Association says the solution involves investment in multi-lingual social workers, reasonable caseloads, and an incident reporting system.

“They have abdicated their responsibility to the students of Revere,” said Jane Chapin, co-president of the Revere Teachers Association.

“It infuriates me that our superintendent and our school committee can’t take that seriously,” said Michelle Ervin, also a co-president of the union.

Members of the council appeared largely receptive to the teachers’ concerns, vowing to make changes. They are considering the addition of more school resource officers and metal detectors but did not take immediate action.

“We need to take notice now. I stand with you, teachers. Whatever you need, I am here for you,” Councilor Joanne McKenna said.

Teachers in Revere are working without a contract amid ongoing negotiations with the city.
