Ordine suggests Maignan caused ‘explosive charge’: “Motivation, desire, redemption”

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan displayed several positive qualities against Italy during France’s 3-1 defeat. However, Franco Ordine suggested that the Italian team had a fire in their bellies due to the goalkeeper’s words.

On Friday night, Maignan was the highest-rated player for France as they lost to the Azzurri at the Parc des Princes. Although he conceded three times, he had a standout performance, and he showed leadership qualities during the match and after.

According to a report, the Frenchman was very critical of his teammates in the locker room, and he has already become a leader in the French camp in a short space of time. It is, therefore, reasonable to suggest a similar path could be in place for Milan.

However, there has been some criticism directed at Maignan from Ordine in his Il Giornale column, and he claims his words before the game activated something within the Azzurri – his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Mike Maignan’s intemperate outburst, addressed to his associates after Friday’s Paris lesson and revealed by colleagues from l’Equipe, cannot and must not go unnoticed. The most significant part of the French goalkeeper’s outburst was the following: ‘Only 2 Azzurri would play as starters in France.’ As if to say: who are we letting beat us?

“It was a punch in the stomach of his own, it can become an explosive charge for the Azzurri. The question is not the trivial one of whether it currently looks exactly like that on paper. Nor is it complicated who Maignan was referring to when he pointed to the number 2 at most among the Italians who would find a place in Deshamps’ line-up: one is Sandro Tonali, a giant in the midfield in the face of more celebrated rivals including the neo-Milanist Fofana, the other is Calafiori who came out of the challenge battered early.”
