G-swimmer Tatyana Lebrun qualifies for 100m breaststroke final with fifth fastest time

Swimmer Tatyana Lebrun qualified for the final of the 100-meter breaststroke at the Paralympic Games in Paris in her SB9 class on Friday. The 19-year-old from Liège finished third in the second series in 1:18.25, good for the fifth fastest time in total. The best eight swimmers (out of a total of ten) qualified for the Paralympic final tonight (at 19:21) in the La Défense Arena.

In the second series, Lebrun only had to let the Dutch world record holder Chantalle Zijderveld (1:14.85) and the Chinese Meng Zhang (1:15.56) go ahead. The 100 meter breaststroke is her favorite discipline. The Dutch Lisa Kruger (1:17.53) was the best in the first series.

Lebrun is competing in her second Paralympic Games in Paris. She will compete twice more in the French capital next week, on Tuesday in the 100-meter butterfly and on Saturday in the 200-meter medley. At the Paralympic Games in Tokyo three years ago, she only competed in the 100-meter breaststroke, in which she finished eleventh. Two years ago, she won World Championship bronze in the same event.
