“The Traitors” is over. At least in its Belgian version. After three seasons, the observation for RTL is implacable: despite quite captivating shows full of twists and turns, the audience ratings have never really gone crazy. In any case, not enough to justify continuing the adventure given the investment. Especially since the pool of new candidates is probably not large enough in Belgium to be able to concoct a really strong cast for a fourth round. Already for season 3, RTL had to call on French people, including Teheiura and Allan Théo. Curtain call, therefore, for the Belgian version of the adaptation of this Dutch concept.

But fans of secrets, lies and betrayals between (false) friends can rest assured: they won’t be put on a diet! Thanks to its new contract with M6, RTL-TVI is offering season 3 of the French version of the game show this Saturday, which began in mid-August across the Quiévrain. It is hosted by Eric Antoine and filmed in Dordogne, at the Château de Biron. A place steeped in history whose past lends itself well to the theme of the program, since its lord in the 16th century, Charles de Gontaut-Biron, plotted with Spain and Savoy against France and was tried for the crime of high treason, sentenced to death and beheaded in the Bastille! Well, let’s be reassured, it is not such a dire fate that awaits the participants of the game, the principle of which remains broadly the same as in the Belgian version, where the “loyal” candidates must unmask who the traitors are, the latter meeting at night to eliminate the other participants.

If we haven’t seen the first two seasons of the French version of the show in Belgium, RTL is clearly right to offer us the third one directly, which turns out to be particularly high-level candidates, with no less than twenty personalities from very different backgrounds, even including a former first lady of France. And just like in our country, where we had two brothers (Malik and Manzul), two sisters (Aurore and Alice Morisse), but also a couple (Benjamin and Adelina from “Meilleur pâtissier”) in competition, the French production has gone so far as to bring together (or rather oppose) a couple, and not just any couple, since here it is Laurent Ruquier and his partner, Hugo Manos!

Enough to put their relationship to the test. And yet, the presenter of “Les Grosses Têtes” did not hesitate before agreeing to participate in the program. “We love board games of this kind and we really wanted to do this program,” explains the 61-year-old host in the columns of the newspaper “Le Parisien”. “I have never been too public about my private life, until now. That changed a little with Hugo because it is a different generation and another era. But it is also because, in my schedule, I have more time at the moment. Otherwise, maybe we would have done “Les Z’amours” before! (Laughs.)”

The former host of “On n’est pas couché” claims, in any case, that he was not afraid of having to lie to his man or of being betrayed by him. “I just knew that he was more gifted than me in this kind of game, whether it was the werewolves or “Code Names”. He manages to hide his role better, where I am more transparent, especially for him. But I think I improved with this show!”

Nerves on edge

The fact remains that being surrounded by candidates who you constantly wonder if they are lying to you is no picnic and can make you paranoid. “It’s a reflection of society, human nature and lying,” continues Laurent Ruquier. “It’s still a game, but psychologically, it’s a test. Because at home, it stops at the end of the evening, whereas here, it lasted for two weeks.”

Actress Frédérique Bel, who is also part of this season, confirms that tensions can be exacerbated during filming. “I was quite surprised to see that some candidates did not make the difference between the game and reality,” she marvels. “I even saw some crack.” In any case, this promises to be electric moments between the participants!
