Heavy storms have hit northern Italy after a heat wave, leaving one person missing, ANSA news agency reported Thursday.

A man working a field near Turin with a tractor was swept away when the Orco River burst its banks. A search is underway for him.
The regions of Lombardy and Piedmont were hit hardest by the violent storms, with streets flooded and trees uprooted, according to local media.
In Milan, the Lambro River also overflowed, forcing the evacuation of several districts of the city. Parts of the Milan Palace of Justice were submerged. The storms also disrupted train traffic in the region.
Other parts of Italy were also hit by storms, with flooding reported in the northwestern region of Liguria and the southern city of Bari.
