Barbara Sarafian (56), who works for the VTM program Kotmadam Sarafian lived with a group of students in Ghent for ten months, does not have very positive memories of her student days. For example, the actress was prevented from finishing her drama training by theater icon Dora Van der Groen. “I was very disciplined.”

The actress, known for, among other things, What If in Collision in Moscowa temporary career switch. But she has a passion for acting first and foremost. And for that, the Ghent native moved to Antwerp at the age of 21.

She started there full of courage to study drama at the conservatory. At that time still under the guidance of the legendary Dora Van der Groen. She suddenly put an end to that. A hard nut to crack for the committed student. “Dora’s choice. And to this day I don’t know what I did wrong there”, Sarafian reflects. The Latest News back to that disappointment. “I was very disciplined. Too much, perhaps. ‘Why are you here so early?’ she would ask.”

Van Der Groen confronted Sarafian about the rejection years later. “She asked why I hadn’t asked for an explanation. But I didn’t want that. I would find out for myself what she meant,” says the actress. “In the meantime, I know that rejection is part of life as an actor. You are a market trader, you display your wares and show them off. If someone is not interested, you go to the next market place.” (WVB)
