In an interview with Point, The president of the Horizons party says he will propose a “massive” project to the French in three years.

The timing is surprising. While the country has been mired in a political deadlock since the legislative elections, which did not give a majority to any bloc, former Prime Minister (2017-2020) Édouard Philippe is looking further ahead. In an interview with Point This Tuesday, he officially announced that he was “candidate for the next presidential election” of 2027. If the president of the Horizons party has made no secret of his ambitions for several months, and implied that he would be on the starting line, he is now showing his determination. “It is often said that for a presidential election you should not want anything else. I agree with that.”he says. The mayor of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) even says he is ready to enter the electoral arena in the event of an early election, and therefore the resignation of Emmanuel Macron.

Seven years after defining himself as “a man of the right” during the transfer of power with Bernard Cazeneuve in the courtyard of Matignon, Édouard Philippe still feels “at ease” with this formula. While affirming “not to try every morning to ask (oneself) what is (one’s) label”. And to develop: “I believe that what matters most is to create your own political space and never confine yourself to where some would like to limit you.”

Concerning his future programmatic axes, the first head of government of Emmanuel Macron evokes “four perils” which France must face: “Democratic”, “budgetary”, “immobility” et “public order and security”To remedy this, he said “prepare to offer things to the French” in the next three years. “What I propose will be massive. The French will decide.”
